Ugh!
What is the one rule around grammar, mechanics or word usage that just always trips you up? What strategies do you use to try to get it right every time? Give examples of situations when you've found yourself struggling. If you can, provide that classmate with a suggestion that will help solve her/his problem.

Onew rule around grammer that always just trips me up is that i never really know what i read most of the time. Like usually everytime i do the tests in school the teacher will most likely ask you to recall what you just read. For some wierd reason i have trouble with that. I usually forget what i read. The strategies that i wouldis to stop after a certain amount of paragraphs and recall what i have read in my mind. Now once in a blue moon that would work but rarely does that work. I mess up n those reading tests in elematary school. My teahcer wanted me to redo it cause i didnt really remember everything.I always try to get it right!
ReplyDeleteOne thing around grammar, which always has me struggling, is my punctuation in words or sentences that really get me mixed up .I know how to do simple things in my grammar section sometimes I just don’t really understand why I need some of the reading symbols in my reading and writing.I'm pretty good with homonym's but not quiet all the way their yet!
ReplyDeleteThe thing that confuses me the most is the words “There, Their, and They’re” the three of them are the words that confuse me the most.
ReplyDeleteI’m adding on to my response….. Those Words confuse me because I don’t know what one to use in sentences like how many of the kids where there. There is so much wood. They’re so quite.
ReplyDeleteOne rule around grammar that always messes me up is punctation. I never know when to put a comma. I only know to put a comma when seperating words like: summer, spring and winter. If I have to seperate words in a sentence I don't get it at all.
ReplyDeletewell 1 thing would be spelling another thing would be proper grammer and how i right things so when i see this i re-read and make sure i spelled everything correct and everything in my writing makes sence.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'll say "1" instead of "one", but I don't have any problems.
ReplyDeleteI have had a hard time spelling "their" so to remember how to spell it I used a rhyme, "I before 'e' except after 'c' or when sounding like 'a' as in neighbor or weigh". After using several times I was finally able to spell "their". Once in fourth grade I was writing a personal narrative and when my teacher checked for misspelled words, he noticed that I couldnt spell their so he told me. I worked on remembering and the rhyme helped me a lot.
ReplyDeletei always put capitals in random places in a word where there not supposed to be.
ReplyDeleteHi mrs.puccio its Megan Brunner!...What trips me up in word mechenics is the silent h in some of the words that we use all the time like...what so that is what trips me up.
ReplyDeleteOne rule of grammar and mechanics that always trips me is where I'm suppost to put the comma.
ReplyDeleteTo help I read the sentence and see were a break could be. Once in 6th grade I was writing an essay on ancient Greece. I came to a sentence and didn't know were to put the camma. So, I read the sentence a few times and put a comma were I thought was a good place to put it. Turns out I was right.
My biggest problem in grammar is, knowing the different kinds of punctuation and what they mean
ReplyDeletei don't get what you are asking me to do
ReplyDeleteI'm confused on what to do. I wasn't in school today. What do I do???
ReplyDeletethe thing that always trips me up is that you cannot use slang words like ain't and dang in papers and tests.
ReplyDeleteThe differnt spellings of their, there, and they're trick me every time. I think of people when I see the word their. When I see the word there I think of it as the place you are going to because it spells the word here in it. When I think of the word they're I just say the sentence as they are because the apostrophe is in place of the a.That is how I find out how to use and spell the words there, thier, and they're.
ReplyDeleteIn some situations when I have found myself struggling with grammar, mechanics or word usage, It would probably be because of writing and speaking too many "like's", and too many "...", when I can't think of what to say next. My brain spits itself off on the paper, which is sometimes good, but also sometimes bad, with the "like's", and "..." and even "and's".
ReplyDeleteIn a situation where I am struggling with grammar, mechanics, and word usage, It would probably be because when I am writing(and even speaking), I tend to use the words "and" alot, and also "like". I also speak and write alot of "...".These are usually spoken or written when i can't think of what to write or say next. Like I'm having a brain fart, where my mind is using teenage girly language, when I'm supposed to be sounding like a mature, young adult. So this is one of my "ugh!" moments.
ReplyDeleteSometimes while I am writing, things that bother me are that I just keep writing and writing and make one sentence the whole paragraph. I struggle with making all the commas because sometimes I do not know where to put them! I feel like all my sentences I write are really long so to fix that I have to start acually using commms and periods where they should really go.
ReplyDeleteWhat trips me up is words that sound alike or are spelled alike. Like the words there, their, and they're. I always put a "their" when you are supposed to put "there"
ReplyDeleteSomething that messes me up is that i read too fast! half the time i dont even understand what i am reading... i get so eager to finish the book that my mind goes blank and i miss out on the important parts!!! i really need to learn how to slow down when i read... but i still love reading!!!
ReplyDeletesometimes i cant spell words ori look at a word that i know and i cunfuse it for another or sometimes when im wrighting something i forget what i waz talking about
ReplyDeletei get stuck a lot on capitalization. I forget to use it for names and sometimes i put it in the wrong place. Perfect example i forgot to capitalize "i" in the last few sentences I just typed. I proof read my work after I finish. (I will not fix my first few sentences so you can see what I'm talking about.
ReplyDeleteWhat annoys me Most is that whenever there is an s at the end of a word you have to put the '(I put that there because I don't know how to spell the word) at the end of the word instead of in the middle.
ReplyDeleteWhat trips me up is the use of there, their and they're. Somtimes i dont know when to use an apostrophe.
ReplyDeletethe thing that always trips me up is.......
ReplyDeleteI sometimes read books that are a little bit to hard for me. I am in a great book rite now but at some pionts of the book im either not sure what is going on or what just happened in the book, but other times I will come up to a word that i dont know. I would usualy go and look up the word and jot it down on a post-it but this book is to good to put down.
Some things that always mess me up are spelling words that have silent letters in them .I don't really have problems with "they're ,there, and their" .Those words don't really bother me . Also I'm sorry but i don't know what "mechanics" are it sounds like someone who works with cars and mechanicky stuff . I'm not copying Lauren :) but I also say like a lot, my 6th grade teacher used to make fun of me for it all the time!!!! BE ACTIVE, HAVE FUN AND READ!!!!
ReplyDeleteOne rule that almost allways trips me up is the difference between "A" and "An" I barely get that one right. Commas also trip me up because I don't like using them because it creates really long sentences and sometimes it is confusing where to put one.
ReplyDeleteA grammar rule that messes me up is the difference between their, there, and they're. This messes me up all the time, I haven't overcome it , but it is getting better. Though I still get confused sometimes.
ReplyDeleteA situation where I struggle with grammar, mechanics and usage of words that always mess me up is the different types of ways to spell there, their, and they're. I always second guess myself when I write the word there or their or they're and i usually get it wrong. Something else that messes me up sometimes is with punctuation. I never know when to put a comma. Say if in the sentence I have to put a comma to Separate a sentence of some kind. Those are my "Ugh! Moments"
ReplyDeleteUsually, when I have an "Ugh!" moment, I'd read on to see if the text has an example of what a certain word means. If that doesn't work, I (very rarely) look it up in the dictionary. An example is when I read one of the "A Series of Unfortunate Events" books. I came across the word "ocular". It took about 159 pages until a point when it showed the table of contents of a fictional book about ocular science. I then skimmed through that page and all of those contents had to do with eyes. So, although it took a mass amount of pages, but my # 1 method always works.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that always trips me up is that I always use and at the beginning of a sentence. I'm always afraid that my sentences are to long, so I start a new one with and all the time. What can I use to replace and?
ReplyDeleteI always have trouble knowing where to place the commas and the quotation marks. I usually either put them in the wrong place or I forget them. The way I fix this is: a) I review it over with my parents or b) I spell check it. I hope this advice helps others who have trouble with this.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that always gets me confused is when we are supposed to say, "You and I..." It always messes me up, because it sounds more natural to say, "You and me..." or "Me and you..."
ReplyDeleteI try to reread my work as much as possible, and I pretend that I am an outsider reading it for the first time. I usually catch myself when I do that, but not always!
The thing that confuses me the most is the spelling of the similar sounding words , also i can`t stop using the word "like".
ReplyDeleteA rule in grammer, mechanics, and usage of words that always messes me up is the word were or where. I dont know when to put the h in where or have no h in were. That is a grammer mistake that i always make.!
ReplyDeleteTo try to get all of my work right a reread it like 5 times. BUT IM KIND OF GETTING GOOD AT GRAMMAR AND STUFF LIKE THAT BUT I STIIL DO IT
ReplyDeleteI have a problem about the three meanings of there: like there, their, and they're, and when i'm writing a story i use basic words like: I, said, and the 3 there's.
ReplyDeleteThe things im ALWAYS confused about is the there, their, they're I somehow always get them mixed up. What I also get wrong almost all the time is when we are suppose to put you and I, everytime i write a paragraph i always put me and (someone's name). Those mostly always happen to me.
ReplyDeleteMost of my "ugh" moments are when I'm rereading my writing I realize that my paragraphs are one or one and a half pages long! So then I have to look over it and pick places to start new paragraphs.
ReplyDeleteIn grammar I have problems with spelling. I'm horrible at spelling! I also have problems with puncutation, and were to put quotations when I'm writing a story.
ReplyDeleteWhat trips me up most is just spelling things in general. I also have a problem with puting capitals were they dont belong.
ReplyDeleteWhat makes me get confused the most is saying words correctly because when you're supposed to say "I'm not", I sometimes say "I aint" and saying "want to", I usually say "wanna".
ReplyDeleteI defiantly have a problem with spelling but someone had told me to spell the word out load 10 times to someone and know certain words i get right every time
ReplyDeleteone rule is always having to put a coma and always having to spell the word right
ReplyDeleteThe one thing that grammar get me is that when i type something i always forget the period and capitals on the begining of the words.
ReplyDeletethe one thing that grammar get me is the period
ReplyDeleteWhat trips me up is that the two words then and than they sound familiar to each other and sometimes I mess up with them which is not good
ReplyDeleteIam trying to get them right by practicing them more and more and after a little while i will be good at them.
Torie Giustra
ReplyDeleteThings that trip me up and grammer are. The meanings of the words their, there they're. They really confuse me and I would like to learn how to use them correctly. Another thing that confuses me is when to put commas and apostphophies in a sentence or paragraph and I would like to learn when to place them into my personal writing.
The problem that have is i always get confused on where to put the comma if i need one in a sentence. I also forgot to capitalize "i's" that are not at the beginning of a sentence such as "Yesterday i..."
ReplyDeleteThe thing that trips me up about grammar is the difference about the three theres. I am really confused about them because i don't know what sentence to put them in. They are usually wrong when i put them into a sentence.
ReplyDeleteThe one thing that never seem to get right are using the right words in a sentece such as when too (i thinks thats right) use the word to or too and their there and they're. also what anoys me is sometimes when i'm reading i just totaly blank out and just forget what i read that anoys me to because it makes me lose my train of thought. Well i hope i can work on those skills bye for now. :)
ReplyDeletei trip n spelling sometimes and then I try to figure out how to spell it like big words are hard and if I know i cant spell the word i look it up
ReplyDeletewhat I have a problem with is spelling. I always mess up and I always take forever to write stories
ReplyDeleteThe one rule that always messes me up is there their or they're. What I always do to fix it is to think if it's a person or a place or if I am trying to write they are which would be they're
ReplyDeleteThe only real thing that trips me up is when to put who and when to put whom. I just don't know where to put each one
ReplyDeleteone thing that i struguhl with is writen personl naritives . And the way i get thourh it is by keep telling myself that i can do it
ReplyDeleteMy spelling stinks and i forget to use capitals when I am supposed to.

ReplyDeletewhat I have a problem with is putting periods at the of my sentence
I have always had trouble with spelling and where to put the right words. Sometimes when I'm writing storys I will right a few sentences and the rearange them a lot of times. When I'm spelling bigger words in storys I just get stuck and try all these different ways to spell the word but I can never get it correct. One time that happend was in the on demmand writing you asighned us. I dont remember what word it was but I just couldn't figure out how to spell it even though I had gotten it correct many times before. I suggest if you have the same spelling problem I have you should try to wright it out before you just guess.
ReplyDeleteWhen I'm reading storys the beginning always seems strange to me because I never know what's going on. I eventually figure it out but that is after ten or twenty pages. That only really happens to me in a book with a lot of early action. It happened to me in the book called "The City of Screams". To fix that problem I read a few pages before I stoped in my previous reading.
The thing that confuses me most in grammer and mechanics, is the words "there, their, and they're" i never know which one to use when iam writting.
ReplyDeleteThe one thing that gets soo anoying to me is rewriting your story to find you have a bunch of tiny little mistakes.Like accidently adding an e to when or what
ReplyDeleteone thing that always trips me up is puncuation but mostly commas. i dont actually know where to exactly put them in my story/writing. i just kinda well place them somewhere in the story and most of the time it never makes sense.
ReplyDeletei have problems in spelling short words. but sometimes I can spell big words. I need big help on witch words to use in a sentence I really get stuck on a word with ' I can't get them right in stead of can't I put can not. i also have problems with punctuations. like where to use the , . and ' >_< I hope I can fix my problems

ReplyDeleteAfter reading my post I noticed I had spelled a few words incorrect.I had spelled write, rearrange, stories, and assigned incorrect. As you can see I do have trouble spelling.
ReplyDeleteSomething that causes me trouble are the parts of speech. You think a word is part one thing when it's really part of another. I don't know any real trick to remembering them but one: STUDY!!!
ReplyDeleteOne rule around grammar, mechanics or word usage that just always trips me off is, thier there and they're because when ever i write i always don't know where to put them i alwayz think im going to get them wrong. They confuse me alot.
ReplyDeletei have trouble with words with silent letters and very rare, strange and long words, some words confuse me but thats what learning is for.
ReplyDeleteMrs.Puccio, Snowalex1213 is Alexis (Alex) from our class when I'm in 7th Period. I can't really recall having a problem with grammar, except for when I'm writing in first person i always have the two quotation marks instead of using one, like if i say i was talking to my friend and i told her "hi what's up?", see how i use the two quotation marks instead of one? Like this, 'Hey, what's up?'.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest problem in grammer/mechanics are using the words and, also, and the way to many times, how I can fix that problem is by reading it over and over again untill I think of bigger words and that make more sence. My other problem in grammer is using the right punctuation, how I can fix that is by using differnt stratergies and proof reading untill I find whats wrong.
ReplyDeleteA grammar rule that always makes me say ugh is punctuation. I never know when and where to put it like !,.?
ReplyDeleteI try to fix it by going over my written work but I still don't get it!?!
One of my Ugh! moments is when I have to write an essay and I continue a sentence to long and I don't know where to put my comma. I always find it confusing.
ReplyDeletewhat confuses me the most is to and too I dont understand them.
ReplyDeletei have problems with punctuation marks.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that always trips me up is when I write to fast.I skip or leave words unfinished. When I look back after I write a paragraph I always find mistakes. To avoid this problem I check back more often.
ReplyDeleteP.S I was on last years website and by the time I noticed, it was to late.
The thing that trips me up is capitals in front of names and sentences. normally i miss it without noticing.
ReplyDeleteThe one thing thing that always gets me tripped up is always the spelling. The stradegy that mostly work for me is sounding it out.
ReplyDeletewhat trips me up is the there their and they're which one do i pick...so confusing.
ReplyDeletei get confused with homonyms because they are words that sound the same but have different meanings and i get confused with wich word means what and how to spell it.
ReplyDeleteAt home my mom gets confused what am I talking about what happened at school. and when i get mist up informatoin. I know about punctuatoin is that if you don't put a peroid on every sentence you might be reading it fast.and exclamatoin mark is when you say a dialogue. to fix my strategies is that I think hard enough to understand it better.
ReplyDeletei dont understand some times when i need to put puncuation and i always cep using and at the end of my sentances and.
ReplyDeleteThe thing I use to get yelled at all the time for in sixth grade is that, I always got there their and they're mixed up and I also got were and where and also wich and witch to me they are sort of confusing.
ReplyDelete{1}I love to swim in the pool.

I think that dogs are so adorible.
{2}Ilove to play with my cousins dogs and i think that the are adorible so i love to play with them.
{3}Ilove monkeys.
